Urunga is a coastal village at the meeting of the Bellinger and Kalang rivers. The Destination NSW guide (opens in a new tab) provides an introduction to the waterways, coast and village setting.
The Urunga Boardwalk is being replaced in stages. The current Council project update (opens in a new tab) identifies open sections and warns that intermittent closures are required while construction continues, so check it and follow site signage before walking.
Council is also delivering broader Urunga precinct upgrades (opens in a new tab) focused on connectivity, safety and accessibility. Allow extra time around works and use the routes that are open on the day.
For the coast, the Bellingen Shire water-safety page (opens in a new tab) lists Hungry Head Beach patrol information and reminds visitors to swim between red and yellow flags when they are present.
